The History of Alcoa Home Exteriors
The past speaks volumes

For nearly three quarters of a century, America has relied on the trusted brands of Alcoa for beauty, performance and carefree living.

From the original Mastic InsulBric, which created the industry, to advancements like T-lok® technology and Cedar Discovery®, Alcoa has provided American homeowners with elegant solutions to their home maintenance challenges.

In 1932, Alcoa's Mastic® brand pioneered the low-maintenance siding market with the introduction of InsulBric®, an asphalt-based product that was both durable and attractive.

In 1961, our Mastic® brand again revolutionized the modern home exterior market with the invention of vinyl siding.

In 1969, the introduction of our T-lok® Barkwood® panel set the bar to new heights in strength and stability of vinyl siding, and enabled homeowners to rely on vinyl as an enduring solution.

In 2001, Alcoa's Cedar Discovery® used advanced polymer engineering to create a cedar shake and shingle look that mirrored real cedar in exceptional detail.

In 2004, Alcoa and Dow partnered to create Structure®™; the first premium insulated siding permanently bonded with genuine STYROFOAM® insulation.

In 2005, Alcoa revolutionized the building products industry with the launch of DreamColor™; a palette of over 700 colors available in siding, trim and accessories.  Along with the base of 700 colors, Alcoa also offers custom color matching, providing a virtually unlimited amount of choice for homeowners.

Today, Alcoa continues to lead the industry with innovative design and engineering.
