From the earliest settlers to the millions of
immigrants pursuing happiness and prosperity, the legendary American Dream
lives on.
It was that same spirit of achievement and invention that inspired a young
chemist named Charles Martin Hall who, in 1886, invented a revolutionary
process for producing aluminum economically. In 1907, that discovery would
eventually lead to the formation of the Aluminum Company of America.

Ever since the turn of the century, aluminum has been considered one of the
most indispensable building materials. And as a world producer of high-quality
aluminum, the Alcoa name has become synonymous with innovation in everything
from performance automobiles to the finest homes in America. Alcoa aluminum is
even prominent in some of our country's most historical structures, like the
Washington Monument, Empire State Building and John Hancock Building.
Today the name Alcoa means much, much more. Just as Alcoa pioneered the
development of high-quality aluminum building products, it has
emerged to become the nation's biggest and most trusted manufacturer
of low-maintenance, exterior building products. Alcoa is now one of the world's
leading suppliers, manufacturing Classic Living Collection Vinyl Siding,
Mastic® Premium Siding, Performance Metals and Designer Accessories.

Rigorous. Relentless. Extreme. Those three words describe Alcoa's
comprehensive product development, testing, certification and quality program,
ISP (Integrated Standards of Performance). ISP is Alcoa's unique and highly
sophisticated set of standards and conformance specs, combining such exacting
codes as those of Metro Dade County, BOCA, ICBO, ASTM (American Society for
Testing Materials) and a host of others. As demanding as these standards are,
Alcoa ISP standards exceed them. They also include internal tests that predict
and scrutinize performance attributes such as tensile strength, rigidity, wind
resistance, color fidelity and weatherability A product has to withstand a lot
to carry the Alcoa brand name!
What We're Made Of…
We use only the highest quality polymers, resins, additives, and
pigments in any of our new vinyl products. And that's only the beginning…
Geloy – Sunscreen For Your Home
General Electric's high tech resin Geloy helps maintain darker siding
colors by providing superb resistance to the color breakdown naturally caused
by exposure to the sun.
Kynar 500 – Super Strong Laminate
Kynar 500 is a protective multi-layer, weather-resistant coating found
in our Grand Sierra and Quest vinyl siding, providing unmatched weather
resistance and protection against the sun.
Duranyl – The Foundation of Lasting Beauty
Alcoa's exclusive siding formulation enhances durability by increasing
resistance to cracking, impact and thermal distortion.
Alumalure 2000
When it comes to Performance Metals, Alcoa starts with the highest
quality aluminum, then adds a double coating of Alumalure 2000, an exclusive
protectant finish that holds color and resists corrosion. A battery of tests,
including corrosion baths and accelerated UV weathering, ensures that Alcoa
metal retains its superior reputation as the premier product in the industry,
possessing stellar tensile strength, durability and weathering characteristics.
Continuous Testing Ensures Customer Satisfaction
-
Vertical Height Impact Test - Alcoa's Vertical Height Impact Test is designed
to measure a product's durability and ability to resist impact forces, the
result of proper thickness, formulation and impact modifiers. A force that
could bend a thick coin is absorbed by Alcoa vinyl siding without breaking or
cracking.
-
Color Read Test – Color consistency is measured with our computerized Color
Read Test, ensuring all siding in a specific color will look the same. Using a
spherical spectrophotometer, a 10,000 watt xenon flash tube bounces light off a
siding panel. This information is sent to a computer that analyzes the data and
determines if the color falls within specifications. If not, we start all over.
-
Gloss Test – A digital readout microgloss meter scans siding to determine if
its gloss falls within a target range. Gloss is important to the aesthetic
appeal of your siding and we want to make sure it's right.
-
Oil Can Test – To ensure your siding will withstand the elements, an Oil Can
Test places the siding under intense heat strips and saturates them to 120 to
140 degrees, to make sure the siding doesn't warp or buckle.
-
Quality Checks – Engineers frequently check the thickness and shape of panels
to ensure consistency and quality throughout the manufacturing process.
