How to maintain the quality of your Alcoa products

Powerwashing Vinyl and  Aluminum Siding

If you choose to power wash your vinyl or aluminum siding, please read your power washer instructions thoroughly before use. When cleaning, hold the power washer straight at eye level. Do not aim the power washer upward as the water may collect behind the siding, leak later and produce streaks, or could remain and cause decay. Set the pressure using a minimum of 1500 PSI, and a maximum of 2400. Use a 40-degree tip.

Painting Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding may be painted with exterior latex paint. Remember that once you paint an Alcoa product, the warranty on the finish will be void. However, if any of the metal is showing through, those sections would require primer before painting. Pittsburgh Paints (PPG), for example, can mix paint to match Alcoa or Mastic® siding colors. Please follow their recommendation for surface preparation and application .

Shutters

Alcoa shutters may be painted using a good quality exterior latex or water-based paint. Remember that once you paint your shutters, the warranty on the finish will be voided. Do not use an oil-based paint. Do not sand off the original paint. Prepare the surface by thoroughly washing with a good dishwashing detergent, such as Dawn. Please do not use harsh chemical cleaners. Make sure the shutters are completely dry before applying paint. You can also follow the paint manufacturer's recommendation for surface preparation.
